Lirac is Back
I have had so many enquiries about the Font de Notre Dame Lirac that we sold out of several months ago that I've been keeping an eye out for a possible replacement.
The reason for its lack of continuity is apparently some sort of falling out between the winery and the winemaker who subsequently decided to jump ship. The UK Importer has followed the winemaker to pastures new and the 2023 vintage of the new Lirac he is making is now available.
Being so youthful it has been made in a more open and forward style with fruit to the fore and showcasing the fruit driven finesse of Grenache. I have stock arriving this coming week.

Just Arrived
A fabulous new Italian red has just arrived...
2020 Sassaiolo Roso Piceno, Monte Sciavo, Marche, Italy (Organic) 13.5%
We have stocked the Pallio di San Floriano Verdicchio from Monte Schiavo for several years so when a sample of the latest vintage of their Sassaiolo Rosso Piceno landed further investigation was required...
This is a blend of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Montepulciano which shows ripe black cherry fruit on the nose and rich damson character on the palate, with a gentle note of spice. Fans of Rosso Passo from Lenotti - a 50/50 Sangiovese/Merlot blend - really should also try this, another fascinating Sangiovese blend.
The Monte Sciavo winery was established by the Pieralisi family in 1976 and under the supervision of Gennaro Pieralisi and his son Andrea, production has progressed from its initial focus on the Verdicchio grape, to now include red wines made from their own fruit. All grapes are organically grown and the winery has a wider focus on the entire local ecosystem, preserving local flora and fauna and using solar energy for their electricity. There is a constant drive to improve quality and reduce yields which increasingly shows in the glass.

I have a couple of things to highlight this week...
Firstly - thanks to generous supplier support - I have a promotional price available on a parcel of the delicious 2023 Pinot Grigio Terrazze della Luna (details below).
Secondly, the first batch of Summer Six Packs have been selling so well that the Red and Mixed versions have almost sold out. New variants will be taking their place but if you'd like a six pack of these summer wines please don't hang about.
2023 Pinot Grigio Terrazze della Luna, Ca'Vit, Trentino, Italy Reduced from £10.75 to £9.50
The name refers to the "Terraces of the Moon" - the selected hillsides of Trentino where the grapes are grown. This is a zesty wine with excellent concentration and depth. The previous vintage was awarded a Gold Medal at Drinks Business Global Pinot Grigio Masters. If anything, I think the 2023 is even better; it's certainly at its best when fresh. With so many Pinot Grigios now dropping to 11% abv to save on the Excise Duty this stands head and shoulders above by (correctly for the style of wine) sticking to 12.5% abv.

2022 Grillo "Olli", Feudo Maccari, Sicily 13.0% Reduced from £13.75 to £11.95
Bush-vine Grillo from Noto, on the southern-most tip of Sicily. This textural and lightly spicy wine is redolent of almonds and peaches and the sun-drenched Syracuse landscape where the vines are cultivated. Lifted and lightly honeyed with hints of citrus peel, mandarin & stone fruit. The 2023 vintage will follow.

Those of you that frequent our November winetasting will be familiar with Ian Steel and his wife Jan who faithfully man a table of Italian wines dishing out samples and chatting to whoever will listen. This is their wine, grown in their own vineyard in Puglia. Mostly Negroamaro with a splash of Syrah and some gentle time in oak. It somehow seems to get better with each vintage. I have a small parcel available at an offer price. Grab it while it's there...
