Bodegas Borsao

Simply stunning value from a little-known area of northern Spain.  Bodegas Borsao was first established as a co-operative in 1959 but things really took off in 2001 when they joined with two other progressive co-operatives to become the Bodegas Borsao we know today.  The region of Campo de Borja sits to the south of Navarra and southeast of Rioja and is predominantly planted with Garnacha which covers 65% of the vineyard area.

Some 375 members grow grapes for Bodegas Borsao in vineyards covering 2,400 hectares in the foot of the Moncayo mountain ranging from 350m to 800m above sea level.  At the lower altitudes the vines are younger and tend to be irrigated.  Higher up they are older and left to fend for themselves in the somewhat severe climate where the days are hot and dry but the nights cooler.  The Cierzo wind from the Moncayo mountain is cold and dry and keeps humidity levels in check allowing the grapes to be picked a little later at full maturity.

Since 2020 the winery have held the Eco-Prowine certificate which measures and evaluates their environmental impact and their management of such things as water and energy use, waste management and their overall environmental footprint so when you drink their wines you know you've bought from one of the good guys!  You can find out more about Bodegas Borsao by clicking here.
