Cracking Claret

We are running a special discounted price on 2020 Château La Gramondie "Cuvée Eva" from the Côtes de Castillon in Bordeaux with a reduction from its list price of £12.50 down to £10.95.

It is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and made by the the Galineau family who have been making wine at Château La Gramondie for three generations. This right bank château's land comprises of 35 hectares of cool clay soils in which Merlot thrives.  Click here to find out more where there's also an audio clip of us discussing the previous vintage (2020 pretty similar to 2019 though so it still applies).  It's brilliant with lamb and with Easter round the corner there's no better time than to grab a bottle or two of decent claret.

Castillon itself is famous for the battle there in 1453 between English and French armies which was a decisive French victory (unlike like last night's rugby) and is regarded as the end of the Hundred Years' War with all of the French territories won by Henry V then back in French hands with the exception of Calais and the Channel Islands.  Historians also speculate that it was the news of this crushing defeat that led to Henry VI's loss of mental capacity later that year which triggered the unrest that led to the Wars of the Roses.  So now you know just how significant Castillon is...

Free history lesson too eh?  You'll need a glass now...
