A pretty rather than powerful red which is a classic expression of the variety. This has a nose of vibrant red fruits which follows through onto the palate with elements of black cherry and cranberry. It is produced from 30-35 year old vines grown close to the ocean resulting in a long growing season. Grapes are soft pressed to ensure that the elegance of the fruit is preserved and the wine spends a brief time in second and third fill French oak to enhance the fruit.
The back label warbles on about Cinsault being the "Cinderella" grape of South Africa, and I know what they're getting at. Often neglected or employed only in a supporting role in a blend, here is a single varietal version that shines. for me though it's more Spartacus than Cinderella... something previously undervalued and seemingly worthless now properly trained and strutting it's stuff in a way only Mick Jagger could match. Serve cool to enjoy at its best.
