Ripe but fresh with a little green apple bite and more buttery notes of brioche from the merest kiss of oak which enriches and rounds it out but is barely detectable to taste. Clever stuff
This is from way down south in behind Roussillon not far from Limoux. For the most part this is Grenache or Mourvèdre country, but this Chenin is grown at altitude on clay and limestone in the foothills of the Pyrenees and this mitigates the temperature, particularly at night. Unripe Chenin from a thin year on the Loire can be a most unpleasant experience, the acidity scarifying the inside of your mouth, but this is beautifully poised with perfectly ripe fruit and stimulating freshness in delicious harmony.
