This is 80% Grenache and 20% Carignan and packed with juicy red fruit flavours of dark cherry and blackberry, with a hint of spice. It's a cracking Rhone red made by a super producer.
Domaine Chante Cigale is located within the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and has been owned by the Sabon Favier family for several generations. However, the fruit for this wine comes from 30 year old vines on land the family owns in the Vaucluse, in this case from 2 lieu-dits in Travaillan to the west of Gigondas – La Marteillère with clay soil for the Grenache & L’Hers on limestone for the Carignan. Like its white equivalent it takes advantage of the flexibility of the Vin de France classification which encourages such flexibility.
