2020 Santenay Blanc "Sous La Roche", Domaine Bachey-Legros 13.5%

All the vines in the family domaine were planted by generation's grandfather and great-grandfather. They average over 60 years. Full, still young, with ripe fruit and a whiff of smoke.

Brothers Samuel and Lenaïc, the sixth generation, have joined their mother Christiane Bachey-Legros to work on this family domaine of 18ha of old vines. “Old vines! The wealth of our Domaine is contained in these two words”, say Sam. All planted between 1914–1960 by their grandfather and great-grandfather, they have an average of at least 60 years. Their 0.4ha Clos Rousseau ‘Les Fourneaux’ was planted in 1914, making them the oldest vines in Santenay. A cold, snowy February day perhaps did not offer the best tasting conditions up in Haut Santenay, but the quality of these wines shone out! They have elegance, complexity, structure depth of fruit, and great interest. The 2010 Guide Hachette awarded them two Coups de Coeur for their 2006s - red Chassagne-Montrachet (and two stars for the white) and white Santenay! An outstanding haul. There are top quality burgundies here, whatever they are compared with.
