Hidden Gems

Our shop is small, and frequently we just don't have the room to display everything that's currently in stock. This is especially the case at this time of year when our range grows to offer even more choice ahead of Christmas. The website is really the only way to see everything we have available at any point in time.

Here are three superb Chilean wines that we showed at our Christmas Winetasting last month and which were particularly well received. Actually, we sold out of one and almost sold out of the others.  We have now re-stocked so here is a further chance to buy these fabulous wines ahead of Christmas.  They are certainly on our Christmas list! They all come from so close to the Pacific Ocean that the cooling sea breezes ensure slow grape ripening which, in turn, produces more intensity of flavour. As is often the case with Chilean wines the fruit shines through.

It's a little too simplistic to think of them as New World alternatives to Red Burgundy, White Burgundy and Claret, but if you hold that thought for now you've got the basic concept. Each of them has a price of £11.85 per bottle.

2020 Molu Pinot Noir, Kalfu, Coastal Region, Chile 13.5%
Deep and intense ruby red with violet hints. Fruity and expressive nose, showing cherry and raspberries notes complemented with soft spicy character and a vanilla touch coming from the oak ageing. Soft and mouthwatering. Red berry flavours, vanilla and cinnamon hints in the aftertaste. Long and clean finish.

2021 Molu Chardonnay, Kalfu, Coastal Region, Chile 13.0%
On the nose tropical fruit aromas, such as papaya, mango and ripe pineapple are complemented by gentle notes of vanilla. A well-rounded wine with good volume, a concentrated palate, but fresh at the same time where vanilla and tropical fruits mingle. A long, clean finish.

2019 Molu Merlot, Kalfu, Coastal Region, Chile 13.5%
Deep violet red with ruby hues at the rim. Aromas of black cherry and raspberry, complimented by notes of vanilla, spices and dark chocolate from oak ageing. In the mouth it has a balanced acidity, round tannins and a soft finish.
