Yellow Label Organic Monastrell 2024, Bodegas Juan Gil, Jumilla 14.0%

Back by popular request this is the red that we spotted at a tasting last year and Mrs W got to the sample first and flagged it up to me.  She doesn't tend to go for red wine much, so when she says she likes one I tend to sit up and take notice!  Juan Gil are Monastrell specialists with the variety representing about 85% of their plantings.  This comes from 40 year old bush vines which are at 700m altitude which means the grapes ripen slowly.  Fermentation is in stainless steel and the wine then spends about 4 months in a combination of French and American oak.

It's very deep red in colour with bramble and plum on the nose with a gentle hint of vanilla.  The palate is concentrated black fruit - blackcurrant, blackberry and gentle spice.  A juicy and generous red which is hard not to like.
