Warre’s 2017 has bright floral aromas of roses and violets, typical of the Touriga Nacional and also of rockrose, which is a feature of the Touriga Franca. On the palate the wine is full and plummy with amazing concentration and buoyant freshness delivering flavours of black cherries and blackberries. Layers of complexity are gradually revealed with a remarkable full-bodied structure. (Symington Family Tasting Rooms 2019).

2017 had an extremely dry summer, giving exceptionally low yields in Warre's best vineyards. Despite this, soil moisture levels for the deep-rooted, old vines were enough to fully ripen the harvested grapes, making a wine of great concentration, complexity, power and intensity. The different varieties used came from 3 prized parcels within the Douro, ripening several weeks apart - demanding saintly patience in order to get perfect results for each.

Warre's might not be the best known Port Winery, but in this Vintage Port it offers a worthy rival to any other, at an advantageous price. If you are buying Vintage Port to lay down and celebrate the future landmark birthdays of children or grandchildren, or a wedding (or other special anniversary) in the future, this will make an exceptional bottle with which to launch the celebrations! Expected to be at its finest from 2030, it will be just as good at 2040 and beyond.
