One bottle each of the following six wines...
2019 Domaine Mas Barrau Cabernet Franc, Pays du Gard, France
This is an authentic expression of Cabernet Franc, but grown here in the Gard region of the southern Rhone rather than its traditional homes of Bordeaux and the Loire Valley. It is consequently that bit riper whilst retaining the variety's red fruit flavours with that characteristic hint of leaves and roots. Crucially, the alcohol has been well managed to keep everything fresh and in balance. Super value.
2019 Sauvignon/Gros Manseng, Domaine Horgelus, Cotes de Gascogne, France
60% Sauvignon Blanc for lime citrus and gooseberry tang, 40% Gros Manseng for a note of pineapple and grapefruit. This is wonderfully fresh and juicy with mineral crispness. Mouthwatering!
2018 Borsao Seleccion Tinto Joven, Campo de Borja, Spain
A grenache based 3-grape blend providing a full but fresh, easy but not superficial, satisfying glass of red.
2019 Borsao Seleccion Blanco, Bodegas Borsao, Campo de Borja, Spain
A 50/50 mix of Macabeo and Chardonnay with just 3 months in French oak. This reminded us of a modest and modern white Rioja with its clean and ripe fruit and gentle kiss of oak. It's fresh, lively and has a real depth of flavour.
2018 Adobe Reserve Carmenere, Colchagua Valley, Chile
Dark and intense with a little oak with a firm, serious palate, yet with juicy qualities and a long finish. Actually contains up to 15% Merlot - not enough to get a mention on the label! Certified as both Fairtrade and Organic.
2019 Adobe Reserva Chardonnay, Casablanca Valley, Chile
Forget any preconceptions you have about Chardonnay, this is a modern expression and a world away from the overblown versions of old. It's unoaked so the fruit shines with a wonderful ripeness showing hints of tropical fruit, especially pineapple. It's juicy and balanced.>!!
