2021 Wishbone Shiraz/Cabernet, Magpie Estate, Barossa Valley, South Australia 14.0% 75% Shiraz and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon where although the Shiraz is the star the Cabernet adds a note of mint/eucalyptus which privides an enjoyable point of difference.

2022 Black Craft Shiraz, Smalltown Vineyards, Barossa Valley, South Australia 14.5% 100% Shiraz from the Barossa Valley. This is serious stuff with power and complexity. Not the overly-jammy style so often found from the Barossa. This is altogether more sophisticated.

2019 Tyrrell's Hunter Valley Shiraz, New South Wales, Australia 13.5% Maturity and elegance here from this 100% Shiraz from the Hunter Valley. Tyrrell's are world famous and masters of Hunter Valley winemaking.

2023 Ciel de Nuit Syrah, IGT Coteaux de Baronnies, France 14.0% This comes from a region not far away from the northern Rhone and echoes that style of Syrah with both elegance and concentration. 100% Syrah.

2022 False Bay Old School Syrah, Western Cape, South Africa 14.0% 100% Syrah which is fabulous value and has a foot in both the old world and new world styles. I'm frequently guilty of overlooking the False Bay range which are superb value.

2019 Cabriola, Bodegas Borsao, Campo de Borja, Spain 15.0% OK so I may be stretching a point here but it's worth it... Although this is mostly Grenache there's a good proportion of Syrah in the mix which makes it stand out. This is fabulously chunky and butch. Grenache and Syrah are a marriage made in heaven.
