This is plump and ripe with buckets of red fruit. A more straightforward and fresh expression of Sangiovese than you'd find in Tuscany and it's a very attractive style of wine. This is unoaked and shows cherry, plum and berry fruit with some gentle herbaceous notes. The grapes are grown organically.
The Morelli family have been involved in local agriculture since the 1930s growing fruit and vegetables and making some wine from their grapes. In the 1950s they decided to concentrate solely on viticulture and making their own wine. Their plantings consist of Bianchello del Metauro and Sangiovese, though they also have plantings of Montepulciano, Cabernet and Vernaccia Rossa. Fano is at roughly the same latitude as Florence and Pisa but on the Adriatic coast sitting just to the north of vineyards that produce Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. The Morelli estate consists of six separate vineyards overlooking the Metauro river on sandy tuffaceous soil. This is free-draining volcanic soil which produces the slightly lighter, fresher and more aromatic expression of Sangiovese than you'd find in Tuscany and I love it!
