Quinta do Vesuvio is situated in the Upper Douro just 45km from the Spanish border. The climate here is different to the rest of the Douro being drier and warmer meaning that Vesuvio is capable of producing top quality vintage port, even in years that are not generally declared such as 1998. Most of the vineyards in the Douro experienced rainfall during the growing season in 1998, especially in late spring which resulted in lower yields and a quality of harvest that meant that a vintage declaration was not made. However, the Upper Douro (where Vesuvio is located) escaped this rain meaning that both the yield and quality of the fruit was unaffected.
This vintage port has a deep, dark colour with firm tannins and concentrated black cherry aromas. This is now drinking beautifully and will continue to do so for many years offering a great illustration of Vesuvio power and elegance.
