Where Volnay is elegant and silky, and Gevrey-Chambertin deep, concentrated and complex, the wines grown on the red, iron rich soil of Pommard tend to be powerful, savoury and structured. That said, this is certainly robust but there's an elegance here as well with beautifully ripe Pinot Noir fruit showing brambles and gentle spice and beautiful balance. The fruit for this particular wine is organically grown and comes from the Petit Noizons and Bas de Saussilles plots, is hand-harvested and given some time in oak.
Domaine Berthelemot is a relatively new setup in Burgundian terms, being formed in 2006 by Brigitte Berthelemot following the merger of the mature vineyard holdings of Jean Garaudet and Yves Darviot.
