Made from a small parcel of vines in a plot that was replanted with Chardonnay rather than Gamay because it was felt that the local geology and topography (a gentle south-east facing slope on sandy soil rather than the granite which is more commonly found in Beaujolais) would be better suited to Chardonnay. It's a judgement that has been well rewarded with this elegant and refreshing expression. Just 10% of this sees oak, and only then a carefully selected mix of older barrels so the impact is very gentle indeed. It's crisp and refreshing and the winemaker suggests thinking more Cox apple than Granny Smith - you get the idea.
