As we hopefully start to leave the grey skies and icy windscreens behind, why not step into spring with these fabulous reds from Chile.  One bottle each of these fantastic rich reds from Emiliana, who are the largest organic and biodynamic producer in South America.  We've championed Coyam for several years but the other two are relatively new.  The Novas Gran Reserva Carmenere is one of the best examples of the variety I've tasted, and the Salvaje Syrah is wonderfully dark with juicy fruit showing Syrah at its absolute best.  One bottle each of the following three wines:

Novas Gran Reserva Carmenere 2024, Emiliana, Colchagua Valley, Chile 13.5% - 85% Carmenere well supported by 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and just the right amount of oak.  This is dark and full of bramble and black cherry fruit.  I defy you not to like this!

Salvaje Syrah/Roussanne 2023, Emiliana, Casablanca Valley, Chile 13.5% - There's a touch of winemaking genius here with 5% Roussanne added to the Syrah which adds a gentle florality to the black fruit aromas.  There's no oak here so the Syrah fruit shines through.  It's a red people keep coming back for.

Coyam 2022, Las Robles Estate, Emiliana, Colchagua Valley, Chile 14.0% - Emiliana's flagship red blend* which contains more grape varieties than I have space to mention!  It's mostly Syrah & Carmenere though and packs in so much flavour, with deep dark red fruits dominating and a gentle hint of vanilla from some time in oak.  A truly brilliant wine.

* Not strictly true as Emiliana do have a red in their range that sits above Coyam, but it would be the best part of £60 a bottle so I've never been brave enough to buy any.  I have tasted it though and it is fabulous.  It's a Syrah, Carmenere & Cabernet Sauvignon blend which sees 16 months in French oak and if I can locate 6 people who are interested in this (ok, 5, so there's a bottle for me) I'd be pleased to see if I can secure a case... please let me know!
