A classic Brunello from one of the top estates. Campogiovanni is a 23 hectare estate located on the southern side of the Montalcino hill which gets a bit more sun than most. Of their 23 hectares 14 are dedicated to the production of Brunello. The harvest usually takes place towards the end of September and after a maceration of about 3 weeks the wine then spends 3 years in Slovenian oak and a further year in bottle before release.
This has a tremendous nose of concentrated dark fruits with a hint of leather (or is it tobacco?) in the background. In the mouth it is expansive and rich with damson fruit, well integrated tannins and a beautifully long finish. A real Tuscan star and just 50,000 bottles produced.
