The daylight is getting noticeably longer and we're seeing a bit more of the sun now. Here is a trio of fresh whites to enjoy, all from less familiar grape varieties which are well worth exploring, as the days lengthen and the weather improves. One bottle each of the following:
Pazos de Ulloa 2025, Ribeiro, Spain 11.0% - A deliciously fragrant dry white from Galicia which is a blend of local grapes including Treixadeira, Palamino and Albariño. It's wonderfully fresh with stone fruit flavours and plenty of zing. No oak.
Arinto 2024 Vila Nova, Vinho Verde, Portugal 12.5% - Wonderfully clean and refreshing with lemony fruit and that characteristic Vinho Verde "prickle". This 100% Arinto is unoaked and as fresh as a daisy. A great aperitif.
Uva Non Grata Gros Manseng 2024, Vin de France 11.5% - Gros Manseng produces a wonderful pineapple-like ripeness and this is no exception. There's no oak here but there is super ripeness with gentle tropical notes. It's ever-so-slightly off-dry and much the better for it pairing it well with dishes that have a bit of spice. This is just perfect for spring!
