From the Monferato hills of Piedmonte comes this 100% Barbera. Most of the vines for this were planted in 2000 so they are just about the perfect age now, and producing that perfect level of concentration of flavour. This wine sees 12 months in French oak barriques which are mostly 2nd and 3rd fill, though 10-15% is new wood. The result is a red showing wild plum and cherry fruit underscored with a savoury and smokey edge from its time in cask. Barbera tends to have a slightly higher level of natural acidity than most red varieties but here it is matched beautifully with some wonderfully ripe fruit meaning that it would pair well with foods like duck or pork.
