Barbera is one of the most widely planted red grape varieties in Italy and Piedmonte it its spiritual home. Typically it makes red wines with relatively low tannin levels, bright acidity and ripe red fruit flavours. This one comes from the Monferato hills to the south of Asti and is a fresh, unoaked version with aromas of raspberry and plum moving to gentle cherry fruit on the palate and bright freshness. In many ways a perfect warmer weather red which you could serve cool if you wish. Try this with classic Italian dishes such as pizza or pasta or firmer cheeses. It also works well with mushroom dishes and is an ideal red for roasted white meats such as chicken or pork.
