Archangel Gin, Norfolk, 45.0%

Archangel themselves write that their flagship gin is a delicious, rich, full-bodied and sophisticated gin containing thirteen botanicals including Norfolk junipersea buckthorn and verbena. It is distilled on their family farm in beautiful West Norfolk, the nose is complex and exciting and the length on the palate is nothing short of epic!

JW says "Norfolk has been a favourite holiday destination since our kids were small (and they now have kids of their own).  We were pointed to Archangel by a bellringing friend a few years back and were instantly hooked.  Whenever we are in Norfolk we always come back with a bottle or two.  Mrs W reckons it makes the best G&T she's encountered so it made sense to see if Archangel would let us smuggle some over the border for our Suffolk customers.

What I love about Norfolk is that it makes you slow down and despite Fakenham being only about 70 miles from Ipswich it still takes the best part of 2 hours to get there, but that part of the charm...  We would suggest that Archangel gin is enjoyed at a similarly considered pace, to enable you to savour the result of the hand-crafted care and dedication that goes into making it.

On the nose there is (correctly) dominant juniper, but look beyond that and a whole raft of other aromatics emerge.  Most gins have a base of either lemon or grapefruit peel but the base for Archangel is orange zest.  The combination of orange, verbena and sea buckthorn, along with some rooty botanicals such as cinnamon, angelica, ginger and cardamom, combine beautifully to support the ripe and fragrant juniper which makes this the most elegant and memorable of gins.  Pair with a decent tonic, some ice and a slice of orange."
