Alvada 5 Year Old Madeira, Blandy's 19.0% 50cl

Estery scents of fruity varnish and toffee apple with just a pinch of liquorice and a sprinkle of muscovado sugar. Sweet and assertive with typically mouthwatering acidity.

John Blandy first set foot on Madeira in 1807 when, as a 23 year old soldier, he was posted to the island with a British Army garrison under the command of Gen.Beresford who had been sent to help the Portuguese thwart any invasion attempt by Napoleon.
As a quartermaster, the young John Blandy came into contact with local wine merchants, and from there his interest in wine burgeoned.
In 1811 he returned to Madeira and founded the company that bears his name.
Alvada is aged for 5 years in American Oak casks exclusively in the traditional "Cantiero" system, this chestnut coloured wine has a fine golden rim and classic Madeira nose of dried fruits , toffee, oak and spices. A sweet, rich and snooth palate with very fine acidity and along honeyed finish.
