This is the first vintage that Araldica have made of this wine and it's bloomin' good! Araldica are a forward-thinking co-operative situated in Castel Boglione in the heart of Asti. The grapes for this come from a one hectare plot belonging to a couple of the co-operative's members so production is never going to be massive, but the skilled winemaking team at Araldica have taken these hand-harvested grapes, deliberately kept cool between picking and fermentation, and produced a lean expression of Viognier that is wonderfully refreshing. The nose is one of stone fruit and blossom which progresses to a palate that has notes of apricot and a keen streak of minerality. Over-ripe Viognier can get fleshy and top-heavy but not this - this is the complete opposite. As for a food match? Well, I'd be looking at something light and delicate. Seafood, salads, fish n chips from the chippy if it's cook's night off. Alternatively, just drink it on its own as an aperitif.
