2023 Ciel de Nuit Syrah, IGT Coteaux de Baronnies 14.0%

Tucked away to the south-east of Montelimar and overlooking the vineyards of Cotes du Rhone Villages and Vinsobres lies the Coteaux de Baronnies.  This gently rolling landscape is known for its wonderfully clear night sky and there is an observatory up there as a result.  The area grows mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot but also a small quantity of Syrah which, in the case of this wine, has a flavour profile that makes you think of the northern Rhone (which actually isn't that far away).  We've been looking for a single varietal Syrah for a while and this hit the spot.

This has great freshness and concentration.  There's a hint of violets or even burnt orange on the nose that follows through to a palate of dark red fruits with a hint of black pepper.  Drink with anything hearty.
