50% Grenache Noir, 30% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre with the balance made up of Cinsault, Counoise and Carignan Noir. Les Six takes its name from these varieties grown on the chalky clay soils on the slopes above the village of Cairanne in the southern Rhone. This is a new style of Cairanne which, thanks to the ancient varieties included in the assemblage, is also a Cairanne whose heart holds dear the traditions of yesteryear.
This is a really classy wine for the money with rich, dark fruit showing notes of peppery red and black fruits with supple tannins and a wonderfully long finish. It would match brilliantly with chicken and lamb dishes; a rack of lamb roasted with a herb crust - especially those herbs found growing wild in the southern Rhône such as thyme, rosemary, oregano, marjoram and sage.
