Brothers Samuel and Lenaïc, the sixth generation, joined their mother Christiane Bachey-Legros to work on this family domaine of 18ha of old vines, to which they have recently added a further 2.3ha more recently planted - 1ha of Chassagne Montrachet blanc, 0.60ha Santenay blanc ‘En Charron’ and 0.7ha of white Santenay 1er Cru ‘Gravieres’, on limestone soil.
Meursault ‘Les Chevalières’ is from a vineyard planted in 1970 on clay with lots of limestone. Their first vintage received Coup de Coeur in Guide Hachette. It is, of course, 100% Chardonnay which is aged for 14 months in barrel of which 20% is new wood. As you would expect from Meursault this is rich and complex with beautifully judged oak and that classic Bachey-Legros house style which shows a gentle hint of smokiness.
