2016 Cerro Anon Gran Reserva, Bodegas Olarra, Rioja 14.0%

85% Tempranillo with the remainder being Mazuelo and Garnacha. This spends 24 months in new oak but crucially the wine is up to the job and actually needs it. This is drinkable now but still shows a degree of youth; it will easily run for another 5 years if looked after well. If you like Rioja you really ought to grab some whilst it's still available.

Bodegas Olarra was created in 1973. It is situated on the outskirts of the city of LogroƱo in Rioja Alta. The Y shaped building is designed to make optimum use of the space for both production and ageing of the wine. The clay and chalky soil is watered by the rain and the Ebro River. This area also benefits from warm sunshine and the influence of the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.
