Monte Schiavo is a modern and dynamic company with 115 hectares in the Marche region of Italy - the heart of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi country. Producing both red and white wines, it's their signature Verdicchios for which they are best known - this is one of the 4 they make.
Pale straw in colour with greenish gold highlights. Intense and persistent aromas of honey and almond blossom followed by more developed ripe fruit characters. Rich and full flavoured with concentrated peachy fruit and a grapefruit tang. This reminded us of how brilliant good Verdicchio can be.
Made from Verdicchio grapes grown in Monte Schiavo's 'Fossato' vineyard in the commune of Poggio S. Marcello. The vineyard is at 205 metres above sea level and the soil is clay. Vines are trained on wires in the cordon spur style. The grapes are hand harvested in October in several passes. The average annual yield is 7,000 kg per hectare. The hand selected grapes are fermented at a controlled temperature in stainless steel. The fermentation is initiated using local yeasts and completed using selected yeasts. The wine is is matured on the lees for 5 months in stainless steel before being bottled.
