Clos de la Boulotte is a1.12 hectare single vineyard of 60 year old vines and this is a super example of Aloxe-Corton. This is wonderfully elegant modern Burgundy. The nose is ripe and perfumed with characteristic Pinot fruit and a gentle hint of oak. It is elegant and nuanced in the mouth with excellent balance and that gentle hint of vanilla and a long finish. Elegant and full of finesse rather than big and chunky.
The domaine covers 16 ha in both Côtes de Beaune and Côtes de Nuits, covering 20 appellations. It has been in existence since 1792 when Guillaume Nudant purchased his first vineyards. In more recent times, it was André Nudant who expanded the domaine in 1950, and now it is run by his grandson Guillaume. They use both hand and machine harvesting, and destem all the grapes, which are then hand sorted. The domaine does cold maceration and pigeage before pressing, then fermentation in barrique, a third of which are renewed every year, and used according to the wine’s particular requirements. Ageing is for 12-15 months after which blending of the barrels takes place in tank to soften the tannins. Clos de la Boulotte is 1.12 ha of 60 year old vines, and their first vintage, after its purchase, was 1995.
