Warres 2011 Vintage Port shows the deep opaque purple colour of youth and is layered with aromas of sweet blackberry fruit and typically perfumed floral hints of rockrose and fresh violets. On the palate the wine has great finesse and balance, with traces of minerality running through the silky tannic backbone, leading to a long velvety finish. The grace and elegance of this Vintage Port is an historic point of difference to many other (still fine) Vintage Port examples - this is due in part to the use of "field blend" grapes from ancient mixed vines (40%) along with staple Douro grape varieties Touriga Nacional (37% and Touriga France (23%).
A wonderful Vintage Port with which to celebrate birth dates and anniversaries without breaking the bank, this example should be at its absolute best around 2030, lasting to 2060 and probably beyond.
