Unusually a little more Merlot here (55%) than elsewhere in the Medoc. The balance is 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. The Chateau itself is located in the very north of the Bas Medoc, well to the north of the commune of Saint-Estephe. This is now mature though may be kept if required.
The Chateau is something of a rising star. Some 40 years ago, they realised that the soil in this northerly part of the Médoc once produced excellent wines and the land had been abandoned. Now with 40 hectares, and the vines becoming older, 20- 25 years on average. Chateau Noaillac is now making some of the best value claret on the market.
