2001 is characterised by wines of good colour with a promising blue tint on the rim. The aromas are not as lifted as in some of the exceptional years however the more subtle nose is nevertheless elegant and appealing. The structure is firm and palate filling, suggesting long aging potential. Now drinking even though 2001 still seems like yesterday...
Quinta do Vesuvio stands alone both in terms of remoteness and sheer grandeur. Located in the wild and serenely beautiful eastern reaches of the Upper Douro Valley, this enormous property is set in the prime wine growing area of the demarcated Port region.
It is also the only Port Quinta owned by the Symington family whose entire production is vintage port. Quinta do Vesuvio has a superb "terroir", defined by a complex and unique combination of microclimates and soil conditions that are ideal for producing Port.
The old winery has been renovated during the last 15 years but still houses ancient granite lagares where the harvest is trodden by human foot.
